Evighetensklesskap Perpetuum Vestium er et forsøk på å legge til rette for at klær og tekstiler kan leve evig. Jeg har i
en årrekke samlet inn brukte klær og tekstiler og arkivert dem sammen med informasjon om hvor de stammer fra. Det stadig voksende materialet utgjør prosjektet og arkivet Evighetensklesskap. I klesskapet går ingen
ting til spille, og materialene bearbeides og settes sammen til særegne klesplagg og tekstile objekter.
Plaggene kan leies eller eies, og en egen panteordning sikrer at de vender tilbake til samlingen for videre bearbeiding og reparasjon. Personene som leier plaggene, markeres med initialer i arkivet og blir slik en del av historien til hvert plagg. På den måten er samlingen i evig endring gjennom bruk og slitasje, gjentatt bøting og stadig omsøm.
Tittelen Evighetensklesskap Perpetuum Vestium er inspirert av begrepet perpetuum mobile hypotesen om en maskin som kunne gå evig uten tilførsel av energi. På samme måte er Evighetensklesskap starten på et potensielt endeløst prosjekt der jeg utforsker de tekstile materialenes holdbarhet og muligheter for gjenfødelse. Innholdet i det stadig voksende klesskapet peker til fortid, nåtid og fremtid der ulike mennesker, tider og kulturer kobles sammen med nål og tråd.
The Perpetual wardrobe - Perpetuum Vestium is an attempt to make it possible for clothes and textiles to live forever.
For a number of years, I have collected used clothes and textiles and archived them together with information about where they come from. The ever-growing material constitutes the project and archive The Perpetual Wardrobe. In the wardrobe, nothing goes to waste, and the materials are processed and assembled into unique clothing and textile objects.
The garments can be rented or owned, and a separate deposit scheme ensures that they return to the collection for further processing and repair. The people who rent the garments are marked with initials in the archive and becomes a part of the history of each garment. In this way, the collection is in perpetual change through use and wear, repeated mending and constant re-stitching.
The title Perpetuum Vestium is inspired by the concept of perpetuum mobile, the hypothesis of a machine that could run forever without a supply of energy. In the same way, the wardrobe is the start of a potentially endless project where I explore the durability and possibilities of rebirth of textile materials. The contents of the ever-growing wardrobe point to the past, present and future where different people, times and cultures are connected with needle and thread.
